Setting up discounts in Lightspeed eCom

This article is for Lightspeed Retail POS (X-Series) merchants who have Lightspeed eCom (E-Series) included in their subscription plan. To learn more about Retail POS, check out the X-Series Help Center or E-Series Help Center

In your Lightspeed eCom online store, you can create both conditional and unconditional discounts, coupons, and promo campaigns to boost sales, dispose of some slow-moving items, or run a store-wide sale.

Currently, Promotions and Price Books that you create in your POS backoffice do not sync with your eCom store. To apply discounts for online sales, you must configure them separately in your eCom admin.

Creating sale prices and discounts in Lightspeed eCom is straightforward and versatile: you can discount individual items or entire categories, create rules for discounts to apply, schedule sales, generate promo codes. For example, you can offer a 50% discount on all products during Black Friday along with a free shipping discount coupon.

To put a specific product on discount, you can create a sale price for it, also called “Compare to” price. Once you enter a new price that is higher than your current price, your original price is shown as a new lower price. Your store will automatically calculate the discount amount and show the discount label next to the product price. The product will get a bright ON SALE label.

Instead of putting a single item on sale, you can create unconditional discounts across the entire store, specific categories, or multiple products at once. This can be done with so-called Promotions in your eCom. Discounted items will have the “Compare to” price, so the original price is shown struck out, and the product gets the ON SALE label.

Each sale that you create with Promotions may include as many discounted items as you want. All sales are stored in your store admin, and you can reuse sales by simply turning them on and off. That allows you to put multiple items on sale in no time.

Discounts on cart total and customer groups in Lightspeed eCom

You can set conditions for applying discounts on cart total either in percentage or in absolute values. In addition, you can select specific customer groups from your eCom admin and apply discounts to them only. Customers need to login to their customer accounts in order for discounts to apply.

Customer groups don’t sync between POS and eCom, so you should set customer groups in eCom admin first. For this, from your POS go to Online → Go to eCom → Settings → Customer Groups page.

Bulk discount pricing in Lightspeed eCom

You can offer discounts based on the quantity of items purchased to stimulate customers to buy more items. That’s also helpful if you have a B2B business model and sell a large amount of items to other businesses. 

Bulk discount prices are set up for each product individually. Once set up, your customers will see the note at the product details page, suggesting to add more items to cart to get a discount.

Discount coupons in Lightspeed eCom

A discount coupon is a code that customers can enter at checkout to get a discount. You can create coupons for free shipping, percent and absolute discounts. What is more, it’s possible to limit them to certain products, categories, and number of uses.

"Buy One Get One" promo in Lightspeed eCom

Buy One, Get One for Free (or BOGOF) is a great marketing tactic for getting rid of leftover stock items. You set up a rule that when someone gets one item, they get the second item for free or with a discount. In your eCom, BOGOF campaigns are created with the BOGO app

The BOGO app has its own fee that is paid separately from your Lightspeed subscription.
