You can add your Ecwid store to any website or blog and rest assured that your customers’ data is secured.

If you added Ecwid to your own website that doesn’t have an SSL certificate, your store data is still secure, but your customers will not see the secure "lock" icon in the browser address bar, which they might find unsafe.

To show the secure "lock" icon in your customers' browsers, your whole site must be running via HTTPS, so you need to buy and install an SSL certificate.

Get an SSL certificate if you use a sitebuilder

Some site builders offer a simple way to enable SSL for your website. If you use a website builder, check out their Help Center or contact their support team to find out how to set it up. 

Wix: you can enable SSL for your website right in your Wix admin area:

  1. From your dashboard, click Manage Site.
  2. Click Manage next to SSL Certificate.
  3. Click Turn on SSL.
  4. Click Continue.

Weebly: you can automatically add a SSL certificate to your Weebly website from your Weebly site editor:

  1. Click Settings.
  2. Scroll down to SSL in the General section.
  3. Click Enable.

Joomla, WordPress, Drupal: you’ll need to buy an SSL certificate (see the options below) and install it on your website following the instructions (you’ might need a developer's help):

Get a free SSL certificate from Cloudflare

Cloudflare offers free SSL certificates with up to 15 years of subscription. It protects your data and has other benefits like basic protection from DDoS attacks and automatically speeds up of your website.

Buy an SSL certificate from your domain registrar or hosting service

Most domain registrars and hosting services sell SSL certificates.

Buying from a domain registrar or a hosting service makes it easy to switch from HTTP to HTTPS. Here are some popular options:

If your domain registrar or hosting provider offers SSL certificates, we recommend buying one from them. This will save you hours on installing the certificate and switching to HTTPS.

Choose any reseller you like, and remember that there’s not much sense in buying the most expensive option since they will all protect your website just fine.
