Setting up discounts on cart total
In your Ecwid store, you can set up discounts on cart totals that are applied to orders when the total cost of items reaches a specified amount.
When creating a discount on order total, you choose between setting a discount in percent (X% off) or in absolute value ($X off). You can specify customer groups to apply the discounts to, such as B2B customers only. What is more, it’s possible to schedule a time period for a discount to apply. For instance, you can offer a 25% discount on all orders over $200 during Black Friday.
How discounts on cart total work
The on cart discounts are versatile to set up. For example, you can create a 5% discount for $200+ cart total, or 15% discount on $500+ for new customers.
When you offer multiple discounts depending on a cart total, customers will receive the highest discount if their order amount exceeds the maximum specified by you. For instance, if you offer a 5% discount on orders over $250 and a 10% discount on orders over $350, a customer with a cart total of $400 will receive the highest discount, which is 10%.
Different advanced discounts are combined. Here’s examples of how it works:
- Let’s say you offer a 5% discount for all customers on orders over $200 and a 10% discount for VIP customers on orders over $300. A VIP customer with a cart total of $350 will get 5%+10% discount, resulting in a 15% discount.
- Say you have a 5% discount that is applied on shirts only, and a 10% discount on all orders over $200. Then if a customer adds shirts and other items totaling $200, they will receive both discounts.
In tax-inclusive stores, the discount applies to the total price (price + tax). In tax-exclusive stores, the discount applies to the price first, and then tax is calculated based on the discounted price.
