Adding welcome texts and banners to category page

You can use the built-in text editor to add text, videos, or images to your Ecwid online storefront to keep customers informed with key updates about your business. The texts, pictures, or videos that you add to category descriptions will appear on top of the page of the corresponding category, including the storefront page, and you can make this content clickable.

If you're using Instant Site for your website, take advantage of its native features: add an announcement banner at the top of any page on your site, or include an animated text banner to display on specific pages.
If you’ve added an Ecwid storefront to WordPress, Wix or any other platform, please note that they may have their own solutions for adding banners.

Here’s how a banner image might look on the category page:

Adding texts, pictures, and videos as banners to your storefront

You can create banners in the form of text, images, or videos and add them to any product category page using built-in text editor

To add an announcement bar or banner across most pages—including the homepage, product pages, and checkout—use the Announcement section in Instant Site or any other site builder where your Ecwid store is embedded. Alternatively, you can add banners and pop-ups with apps from the Ecwid App Market.

To add content to a category page:

  1. From your Ecwid admin, go to Catalog → Categories.
  2. Choose the category you want to add content to in the list on the left. To display content on the store home page, choose Store front page category.
  3. Find the Description field on the right:

  4. Type your text or click an appropriate icon to add a video, image, table, or a link to the category description. You can change font size and color to make your text more vivid.
  5. (optional) Drag a corner selection handle to resize the image. To align the image, click the alignment icon and choose where to place the banner.
  6. (optional) To make an image clickable, in the Description field, click the <> icon in the upper right corner of the editor menu to enter the HTML mode. Your image will be shown in the <img src="..."> part:

  7. (optional) Enter <a href="https://www.YOURLINK.com/"> right before the <img src="..."> part. Instead of https://www.YOURLINK.com/ you should insert into <a href=""> the webpage address that you need. You can simply copy the link to a page and paste it inside the quotation marks. After the <img src="..."> put </a> so the code looks like this:

  8. Click the <> icon in the upper right corner of the editor menu to exit the HTML mode and check the changes.
  9. Click Save.

That’s it. Now texts, images, or videos added to category descriptions will appear at the top of each corresponding category page.
