Product sort order

You can determine the order of your products that are displayed to your customers in your store. This can help improve the visibility of certain products and have a major impact on your click-through and conversion rates. In addition, your clients can still change the sort order to their preferred view.

Changing default product sort order storewide

To modify the default order settings:

  1. From your Ecwid admin, go to Settings → General → Cart & Checkout.
  2. In the Catalog Settings section, locate the Default Products Sort Order settings.
  3. Change it to your preferred sort order:

Default Products Sort Order

  1. Save changes.

You can select from a few sorting options:

  • Manual, based on your own preferences
  • Newest product, based on the date that the product was created
  • Highest or lowest product price
  • Product title, in alphabetical order or reverse alphabetical order

Now the chosen product sort order is applied storewide. It's important to note that changing the default sort order DO affect all categories.

If you select any setting other than “Defined by store owner”, and later reorder products within a specific category, the changes won't reflect on the storefront.

Reorder products within a specific category

When you add products to your store, they appear in the sort order that you've selected. By default, products are sorted based on the date that the product was created (new products appear on top). If you want to custom sort each and every product, you may do so by dragging and dropping products within a list.

To reorder products in a category:

  1. From your Ecwid admin, go to Settings → General → Cart & Checkout.
  2. In the Catalog Settings section, locate the Default Products Sort Order dropdown.
  3. Choose the “Defined by store owner” setting.
  4. Then go to Catalog → Categories.
  5. Click the desired category.
  6. Go to the Category products tab.
  7. Drag and drop the products to sort them.
