Featured products

If you want to highlight some of your products to sell them faster, you can show them on the page that your customers see right away when they open your store. To do it, you need to add your featured products to the Store Front page category. It is the main root category of the store that is created by default.

You can also use this category to show your best selling items or hot deals.

Featured products help attract attention to certain items in your store. You can use this to:

  • Motivate customers to buy from you: place your best selling items on the homepage
  • Showcase your assortment: place products from different categories to give a better idea of your brand
  • Attract attention to your new arrivals: this will work best if you have a lot of repeat customers
  • Power your sale: show your best deals on the homepage.

Adding featured products to the store homepage

The Store Front page category is a category that's created in a store by default. Products assigned to this category display on the store homepage in the "Featured products" section.

There are three ways to add products to the "Featured products" section on the store homepage.

First, you can feature individual products:

  1. From your Ecwid admin, go to Catalog.
  2. Choose a product from the list (or create a new one).
  3. Scroll down to the Feature on the store’s front page section.
  4. Move the toggle button to the enabled position:

    If the toggle is enabled but inactive, the product is already assigned to the Store Front page category, and it's the only category it's currently assigned to.

  5. Click Save.

Second, you can quickly feature multiple products at once:

  1. From your Ecwid admin, go to Categories.
  2. Select Store front page and open the Category products tab.
  3. Click Assign Products to category:

  1. Tick items that you want to display on the homepage and click Add Products.
    If the list is empty, all the products in your store are already assigned to the Store Front page category.
  2. Drag and drop category items to sort.
  3. The changes are saved automatically.

Third, you can feature your products in bulk:

  1. From your Ecwid admin, go to Catalog → Products.
  2. Tick all the products you want to update (you can click Filter in the left upper corner to use filters and make the search faster).
  3. Click Mass Update:Featured products (2).png
  4. In the dropdown menu, choose Promote on Storefront → Manage Featured Products → Feature Selected on the Front Page.
    To make this option available in the menu, create at least one category besides Store Front page in your store.
  5. The changes are saved automatically.

You can also feature products in bulk using Bulk Product Editor.

Changing the Featured Products heading

You can rename the Featured Products section that displays on the store homepage and call it "Hot deals", "New arrivals", or anything else that makes sense to you. That can be done with the help of the Store Label Editor in Ecwid admin.

To rename the Featured Products section:

  1. From your Ecwid admin, go to Settings → Edit Store Labels.
  2. Click + Get started.
  3. In the search box, type in Featured products. You will see the fields where the entered phrase is used:

  1. In the field for the NewStorefront.featured_products label, type your variant. E.g., Bestsellers. Changes are saved automatically.

Now the products that you have added to the Storefront page category will be displayed under your custom title.

If you sell on Instant Site, the Featured Products section will appear on the main page and on the store page (https://YOUR-STORE.company.site/products). You can change the name for the section on the main page in the Instant Site editor. Previous settings for the section name made in Edit Store Labels will be overwritten but only on the main page. That way, you can have different section names on the main page and on the store page.

Sorting products on the Store Front page

You can set the order in which products will display on the store homepage in the "Featured products" section. Put products that you want to promote on the first place so they attract more customers' attention.

Reordering products manually is available only if you choose Defined by store owner as the product sort order for your store.

To sort products on the store homepage:

  1. From your Ecwid admin, go to Categories,
  2. Select Store Front page and open the Category products tab.
  3. Drag and drop products to sort them the way you need.
  4. The changes are saved automatically.

Removing featured products from the Store Front page

In Ecwid, a product must be assigned to at least one category. If you add a product and don't assign it to any category, it's automatically assigned to the Store Front page category and appears as a featured product on the store homepage.

There are three ways to remove products from the "Featured products" section.

The product must be assigned to some other category so that you are able to remove it from the Store front page category.

First, you can remove products from the featured list individually:

  1. From your Ecwid admin, go to Catalog.
  2. Choose a product from the list.
  3. Scroll down to the Feature on the store’s front page section.
  4. Move the toggle button into the disabled position:

  5. Click Save.

Second, you can remove multiple products at once from the Featured products section:

  1. From your Ecwid admin, go to Catalog → Categories.
  2. Select Store Front page.
  3. Open the Category products tab.
  4. Click the trash icons next to the products you'd like to remove from the Store Front Page:

If the trash icon next to a product is greyed out, it means that this product is not assigned to any category other than the Store Front page. In this case, you should first assign this product to another category. After that, you will be able to delete it from the Store Front Page.

Third, you can remove products from the Featured products section in bulk:

  1. From your Ecwid admin, go to Catalog → Products.
  2. Tick all the products you want to update (you can click Filter in the left upper corner to use "Store Front page" filter and make the search faster).
  3. Click Mass Update:Featured products (2).png
  4. In the dropdown menu, choose Promote on Storefront → Manage Featured Products → Remove Selected from the Front Page.

The changes will be saved automatically.

You can also remove products from the Featured products section in bulk using Bulk Product Editor.

If no products are assigned to the "Featured products" section, it gets automatically hidden from your Store Front page.
