PayPal Checkout

PayPal is one of default payment providers in Ecwid. When you open a store, your login email is preset as your PayPal account email in your Ecwid Control Panel → Payment, PayPal section:

PayPal account

If your PayPal account is registered for the same email you used to sign up for Ecwid or you don’t have a PayPal account yet, you can start accepting payments right away:

  1. Go to your Ecwid Control Panel → Payment, PayPal section:
  2. Click Enable PayPal

Now PayPal method will be available to your customers at checkout and can be used for receiving payments.

In case you don’t have a PayPal account, simply use your Ecwid login email to sign up for PayPal. As soon as you create an account with the same email as set up in Ecwid, all the unclaimed payments will show up in your balance.

If you already have a PayPal account with a different email address, switch your PayPal account in Ecwid:

  1. Go to your Ecwid Control Panel → Payment, PayPal section.
  2. Click Change your PayPal account:

In addition to the regular Checkout button, PayPal can display some extra payment methods on the cart page, including:

  • PayPal Credit
  • Venmo (for the USA)
  • iDEAL (for the Netherlands)
  • Bancontact (for Belgium)
  • MyBank (for Italy)
  • Giropay and SEPA Direct Debit (for Germany)
  • EPS (for Australia).

PayPal presents these buttons dynamically based on customer location and, probably, browser cookies. If you sell internationally, it means that you don’t need to sign up with a variety of local payment providers.

PayPal picks out the most relevant payment methods, like local wallets and country-specific funding sources, for each buyer at checkout. This gives your potential clients more choice and flexibility in how they pay, and they are more likely to convert.

Moreover, regardless of the payment method a customer chooses at checkout, PayPal will send the funds to your PayPal account, so you can manage your transactions as usual.

This is an example of the cart page with additional payment buttons:

The actual set of PayPal Checkout buttons may vary for each customer. According to PayPal, the buttons may be displayed based on customer location and browser cookies.
