Supported PayPal options

PayPal is one of the most popular payment processors in the world. You can easily set up PayPal payment in your store and start accepting money. PayPal allows to accept payments through credit cards, PayPal accounts, bank accounts or buyer credit.

PayPal Checkout

PayPal is one of the default payment providers in Ecwid. PayPal Checkout is preset for your store. When you register an Ecwid account, you're given a PayPal Checkout account with the email you used to sign up for Ecwid:

To start accepting payments, enter the email address where your payments should be sent. This email address should be the same one associated with your PayPal account. If you don’t have a PayPal account, you can set it up later using the same email address that you’ve provided here.

If you have a PayPal account registered for an email address other than your login email for Ecwid, you can add this email to your PayPal Checkout settings and receive money to that PayPal account:

  1. Go to your Ecwid Control Panel → Payment.
  2. Click Actions next to PayPal.
  3. Select Account Settings:

  1. Click Change PayPal account under the email address:

  1. Enter your email address and click Save:

PayPal button on the cart page

If you wish, you can enable displaying a PayPal checkout button on the cart page. This lets your customers skip entering their billing and shipping address and pay right away:

PayPal Payflow Link and PayPal Payments Advanced

PayPal Payflow Link and PayPal Advanced payment methods are available to merchants from the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and UK.

PayPal Advanced method is available for the US and the UK merchants only.

PayPal Payflow is a "true" payment gateway that links your website to your merchant account (a bank account that allows businesses to accept payments by credit card and get payments directly to their bank) and payment processor.

If you don't have a merchant account, you can use PayPal Payments Advanced: this payment method allows you to accept payments directly without redirecting your customers to PayPal as well.

How to set up

  1. Sign up for PayPal Payflow.
  2. Log in to PayPal Manager account.
  3. Select the Service Settings tab.
  4. Select Set Up.
  5. At the bottom of the page, under Security Options, set Enable Secure Token to Yes.
  6. Click Save Changes.
  7. DO NOT change any other values on this page or on the Customize page. Ecwid will pass these values on your behalf automatically.
  8. Go to your Ecwid Control Panel → Payment.
  9. Scroll down to Other ways to get paid:

  1. Click Choose Payment Processor and select PayPal Payflow Link or PayPal Payments Advanced:

  1. Enter your credentials in the settings popup.
  2. Click Save.
  3. Place a test order to make sure the payment option works correctly.
  4. Once you've verified that your account works fine during the pilot, log in to PayPal Manager and click Activate Account.
  5. Go to your Ecwid Control Panel → Payment, PayPal Payflow Link or PayPal Payments Advanced section.
  6. Click Account Settings.
  7. Disable the Send transactions to the test server option:

PayPal Payments Pro Hosted (UK)

PayPal Payments Pro Hosted is a way to accept credit cards or PayPal payments without redirecting your customers to PayPal. So they do not leave your Ecwid store and checkout right there.

PayPal Payments Pro Hosted works for the UK merchants only.

How to set up

  1. Sign up for a PayPal Payments Pro account.
  2. Go to your Ecwid Control Panel → Payment.
  3. Scroll down to Other ways to get paid:

  1. Click Choose Payment Processor and select PayPal Payments Pro Hosted:

  1. Enter your PayPal Pro Hosted email address in the settings popup:

  1. Click Save.

PayPal Insights (PayPal Marketing Solutions)

PayPal Insights allows to increase sales through the power of PayPal shopping data with targeted promotions.

PayPal Insights is only available for merchants from the US.

You can enable PayPal Insights right from your Ecwid Control Panel:

  1. Go to your Ecwid Control Panel → Payment.
  2. Scroll to PayPal Checkout and click Actions → Account Settings.
  3. Click Activate under PayPal Insights:

With PayPal Insights you can offer your customers PayPal Credit as well to encourage your customers to buy more.
