Adding, updating and deleting products

Products are the physical goods, digital files, and services that you sell. With Ecwid, you can sell products that you manufacture yourself or resell products of other suppliers. You can also use dropshipping services if you want to run an online store but don't have your own products to sell.

You add a product by entering product details and uploading product images. If your product has options, like size or color, then you can add a variation for each combination of options. You can also group your products into categories to make it easier for customers to find them in your store and feature a selection of products.

Maximum number of products on different plans:

  • Free — 10
  • Venture — 100
  • Business — 2500
  • Unlimited — unlimited
You can start off by deleting sample products and then add your own products. Edited sample products are counted towards the product limits. 

Adding a new product

Adding a new product to your store is simple and only takes a few minutes. Check out this video:

To delete demo products that appear when you create a new account tick all products, then click Bulk Update that appears above the product list, then choose to Delete Selected.

To add a product to your Ecwid store:

  1. From your Ecwid admin, go to Catalog → Products.
  2. Click +Add New Product:

    1. Enter the name, descriptions, and other product details:

  1. Click Save.
  2. Click Preview Product to see how this product will look in your online store.

That's it. You have successfully added a product to your store.

To add many products at once, you can upload products in bulk using a CSV-formatted import file.

If you use point of sale, like Square POS, Clover POS, Vend POS, you can connect your store to them and transfer the products to your online store.

Duplicating products

When you add several products with many similarities, duplication can help speed up the entry process and save you time. By copying a product, you can modify specific changes instead of repeatedly filling out the product information.

If you want to add options to a product, such as color or size, then add a variation to the existing product instead of duplicating the product.

When you successfully duplicate a product, you will have a copy of the original product. The only thing that will be different is the SKU, it is generated automatically since it must be unique.

To duplicate a product:

  1. From your Ecwid admin, go to Catalog → Products.
  2. Open the product you want to duplicate.
  3. Click Duplicate Product:

  1. Modify product details.
  2. Click Save.

Updating product details

After you've created products, you can update them to change prices, images, descriptions or any other product details.

To edit a product:

  1. From your Ecwid admin, go to Catalog → Products.
  2. Click on the product you wish to change.
  3. Update product details.
  4. Save changes.

Saved changes take effect immediately in your online store and sync across all your sales channels.

Updating products in bulk

You can update your product catalog in bulk in two ways: using the Bulk Product Editor or using a product import.

Bulk Product Editor

You can update several products in bulk using the Bulk Product Editor app right in your Ecwid Control Panel.

With Bulk Product Editor you can:

  • Bulk update all products, or filter the products you want to change
  • Change properties including price, weight, and quantity
  • Add or remove options; add or remove choices for options
  • Bulk enable/disable products in your store.

Export and import

One more way to update several products at a time is using export and import. You can export the products you want to change, edit them in a spreadsheet and then re-upload them to your store using the import feature.

Deleting products

You can delete a single product or delete multiple products at once using a bulk action. When you delete a product, it's permanently removed from Ecwid. Deleted products can't be restored.

If you run out of stock or no longer want to display a product for any reason, but don’t want to permanently delete it from your store, then you can Disable the product availability instead.

If you want to remove a product from a category, you can unassign the product from this category. If you want to remove products from the Featured Products section only, you should remove these products from the default Store Front Page category.

To permanently delete a product from your catalog:

  1. From your Ecwid admin, go to Catalog → Products.
  2. Choose a product you want to delete.
  3. Click Edit Product, then select Delete Product:

  • Confirm you want to delete this product.

To delete several products at once (for example, sample products that are added to Ecwid to show you examples of product setup):

  1. From your Ecwid admin, go to Catalog → Products.
  2. Check multiple products in the list
  3. Click Bulk Update that appears above the product list :
  4. Choose Delete Selected:
