Adding, updating and deleting products

With Ecwid, you can sell physical goods that you manufacture yourself or resell products of other suppliers, digital files and services. You can also use dropshipping services if you want to run an online store but don't have your own products to sell.

It's easy to remove the sample products from your store and add your own. You add a new product by entering product details and uploading product images. If your product has options, like size or color, then you can add a variation for each combination of options. You can also group your products into categories to make it easier for customers to find them in your store and feature a selection of products. And you can also delete disabled products if you no longer going to sell them.

Maximum number of products on different plans:

  • Free — 10
  • Venture — 100
  • Business — 2500
  • Unlimited — unlimited
You can start off by deleting sample products and then add your own products. Edited sample products are counted towards the product limits. 

Adding a new product

Adding a new product to your store is simple and only takes a few minutes. Check out this video:

To delete demo products that appear when you create a new account tick all products, then click Bulk Update that appears above the product list, then choose to Delete Selected.

To add a product to your Ecwid store:

  1. From your Ecwid admin, go to Catalog → Products.
  2. Click +Add New Product:

That's it. You have successfully added a product to your store.

To add many products at once, you can upload products in bulk using a CSV-formatted import file.

If you use point of sale, like Square POS, Clover POS, Vend POS, you can connect your store to them and transfer the products to your online store.

Duplicating products

When you add several products with many similarities, duplication can help speed up the entry process and save you time. By copying a product, you can modify specific changes instead of repeatedly filling out the product information.

If you want to add options to a product, such as color or size, then add a variation to the existing product instead of duplicating the product.

When you successfully duplicate a product, you will have a copy of the original product. The only thing that will be different is the SKU, it is generated automatically since it must be unique.

To duplicate a product:

  1. From your Ecwid admin, go to Catalog → Products.
  2. Open the product you want to duplicate.
  3. Click Duplicate Product:


  1. Modify product details.
  2. Click Save.

Updating product details

After you've created products, you can update them to change prices, images, descriptions or any other product details.

To edit a product:

  1. From your Ecwid admin, go to Catalog → Products.
  2. Click on the product you wish to change.
  3. Update product details.
  4. Save changes.

Saved changes take effect immediately in your online store and sync across all your sales channels.

Updating products in bulk

You can update your product catalog in bulk in three ways: using Ecwid’s Bulk Product Editor tool, using the Bulk Product Editor app, or using product import.

Bulk Product Editor tool

Ecwid’s Bulk Product Editor tool allows you to edit multiple product properties, including SKU, price, stock, shipping settings, and more. You can also edit product variations with it.

To access Bulk Product Editor, select the products you want to update on the Catalog → Products page in your Ecwid admin, then click Bulk Update in the menu and choose Edit Selected. You can also edit all the products in your store by clicking Bulk Update → Edit All.

You can update several products in bulk using the Bulk Product Editor app right in your Ecwid admin.

With Bulk Product Editor you can:

  • Bulk update all products, or filter the products you want to change
  • Change properties including price, weight, and quantity
  • Add or remove options; add or remove choices for options
  • Bulk enable/disable products in your store.

Export and import

One more way to update several products at a time is using export and import. You can export the products you want to change, edit them in a spreadsheet and then re-upload them to your store using the import feature.

This way, you will need 3 steps:

Step 1 — Export the products to a CSV file

  • From your Ecwid admin, go to Catalog → Products.
  • Use search filters to find the products that need to be updated.
  • Click Export all found or Export all depending on whether you want to edit all your products or only some of them.
  • In the Export products pop-up mark 'Product name' and 'SKU' columns, and the ones you want to edit (e.g., price).
  • Click Download CSV file and save the resulting file on your computer.

Step 2 — Open the CSV file in a spreadsheet editor (e.g., Excel or Google Sheets) and edit the columns containing the properties you want to change

Here are some tips to follow while editing:

  • By means of the built-in spreadsheet program features, you can quickly update many lines. For example, you can set the same value for the whole column or even apply a formula to a column so that all the values are changed in the same manner.
    You can insert a formula that will instantly add, subtract, multiply or divide numbers in columns or rows. For example, this way you can add a 10% price markup to all the products — just multiply the whole 'price' column by 1.1 . Please refer to your spreadsheet program's documentation for further details on using formulas.
  • Please make sure the SKU column in your editor has the 'text' type, when you initially open your CSV file. Sometimes, spreadsheet editors recognize numeric SKUs as integer numbers and set 'numeric' format for the SKU column, which results in changing their values (e.g., '0005' becomes '5' when considered a number).
    This may cause some issues during import, e.g., duplicating of store products. The SKUs in the CSV file must be imported by the spreadsheet editor exactly as you see them in your Ecwid admin.
  • When saving the changed file, you may be prompted to change the format of the file. Proceed with saving to the CSV format, not to the Excel document or Open Document.

Step 3 — Import the edited CSV file back to Ecwid

  • From your Ecwid admin, go to Catalog → Products.
  • Click Import products at the top.
  • In the import settings pop-up, choose importing from CSV (the first tab) and open the CSV file with the Choose file button.
  • Select the delimiter to be used in the exported CSV file (by default, it is semicolon).
  • In the Import columns list tick the columns that are present in your CSV file. Important: the column order must be the same as in the CSV file, please re-arrange them if needed (in order to do it, you should drag-and-drop the list items).
  • Uncheck the Delete all products/categories before import checkbox at the bottom of the window.

Please note that you cannot change the SKU for your products using import (it is a key attribute in your catalog), but you can export, edit and then import back all the other attributes/columns. It's better to export only those columns that you want to edit (plus SKU or 'Product name' to identify the product). This way, you will avoid dealing with extra data. For example, you can export 'Product name', 'SKU' and 'Price' columns and make changes in the 'Product name' and 'Price' fields. After you import back the CSV file with these three columns, the changes will be made only to the name and price of your product. The rest of the product details will remain unchanged.


The Quantity column can be used for updating your store inventory. To do it:

  • Export your products (three columns will be enough: Product name, SKU, Quantity)
  • Modify the CSV file in your spreadsheet editor (change the product quantities)
  • Import the file to Ecwid 

The number in the Quantity column will be used to update the quantity of the product with the corresponding SKU or product name. If there is no value in the Quantity column, the Unlimited quantity option will be enabled for the product. Example of a CSV file:

Deleting products

You can delete a single product or delete multiple products at once using a bulk action. When you delete a product, it's permanently removed from Ecwid. Deleted products can't be restored.

If you run out of stock or no longer want to display a product for any reason, but don’t want to permanently delete it from your store, then you can Disable the product availability instead.

If you want to remove a product from a category, you can unassign the product from this category. If you want to remove products from the Featured Products section only, you should remove these products from the default Store Front Page category.

To permanently delete a product from your catalog:

  1. From your Ecwid admin, go to Catalog → Products.
  2. Choose a product you want to delete.
  3. Click Edit Product, then select Delete Product:


  4. Confirm you want to delete this product.

To delete several products at once (for example, sample products that are added to Ecwid to show you examples of product setup):

  1. From your Ecwid admin, go to Catalog → Products.
  2. Check multiple products in the list.
  3. Click Bulk Update that appears above the product list:
  4. Choose Delete Selected:


  5. Confirm the deletion of these products.
