Lightspeed Payments

Lightspeed Payments allows you to accept all major credit and debit cards (both domestic and international), including Visa, MasterCard, American Express, JCB, Discover, Diners Club International, China UnionPay, and more.

With Lightspeed Payments, you can offer subscriptions to customers. It also supports Apple Pay and Google Pay, so shoppers can checkout with one tap in your store. 

Lightspeed Payments has the 2.9% + $0.30 fee per online transaction. All payments processed through Lightspeed Payments, your balance and payouts are always at your fingertips — on the Finance page in your Ecwid admin.

Lightspeed Payments is available in the US only.

Requirements to use Lightspeed Payments

Before setting up Lightspeed Payments, make sure your store meets the following requirements.

  1. Your Ecwid store has legal pages, including:
    • Privacy Policy
    • Shipping, refund and return policy
    • Terms and conditions
    • Payment methods
    • Contact information
  2. You set up your product and shipping settings in your Ecwid store, including:
    • Adding images to all your products
    • Ensuring your homepage and product content is authentic, without placeholder text
    • Adding shipping methods that match your shipping policy
  3. Your store is not selling the following goods and services: Adult content and services, Aggregation/market place, Ammunition, Auction houses, CBD, Child support, Counterfeit or unauthorized goods, Court ordered payments, Debt collection, Donations, Drop-shipped items, Drug paraphernalia, Gambling, Guns, Hate & violence, Legal services, Marijuana, Multi-level marketing, No-value-added services, Opt-out and auto-shipping program, Psychic services, Real estate services, Social media activity, Travel related services, Vape products, Weight loss and hormone products, Weapons.

Setting up Lightspeed Payments

Setting up Lightspeed Payments requires no technical skills. All you have to do is apply for the payment method from your Ecwid admin. Once your store is approved, you can start accepting online payments straight away.

Regulated or illegal products or services, any kind of unfair, predatory, or deceptive practices, CBD products, fireworks, vape, and adult toys are restricted from using Lightspeed Payments.

To set up Lightspeed Payments in your Ecwid store:

  1. From your Ecwid admin, go to the Payment page.
  2. Next to Lightspeed Payments, click Apply to Enable:

  3. Click Start now and fill in all required information about your business. Make sure to provide email that you check regularly. That email will be used to communicate with you in case of any additional documents are required.
  4. Once you finish, click Submit.

Your application will be reviewed automatically right away. If it's accepted, Lightspeed Payments will be activated immediately, and you will be notified about it in your Ecwid admin.

In some cases, Lightspeed may require additional documents. In that case, you will get a notification on the email that you used to apply for Ligthspeed Payments. You will be able to upload additional documents from the Finance page, by clicking on the Upload supporting documents button.

Before you start accepting Lightspeed Payments, place a test order to make sure everything works as expected.

Payments made with Lightspeed Payments will be automatically deposited into your bank account within 2 business days. Processing fees are deducted before the deposit is made.

Accepting payments with Lightspeed Payments

After you enable Lightspeed Payments in your Ecwid store, your customers will be able to choose this payment option at the checkout.

As soon as they choose Lightspeed Payments as the payment option, they will have to fill in their credit or debit card information and specify their billing address. The Billing address section will be prefilled with a customer’s shipping address:

Billing address specifying is a requirement of Lightspeed Payment to prevent fraud and chargeback. With a billing address, a payment gateway can verify whether it matches the data from the card-issuing bank. In case there is a 100% fraud transaction, Lightspeed Payments will prevent a fraudster from buying in your store.

What if I already have a Lightspeed Payments account?

When you already have a Lightspeed Payments account paired with your Lightspeed POS, you can connect that account to your Ecwid store. You can also use one Lightspeed Payments account for several online stores.

To connect an existing account, you don't need to fill out an application form from scratch. Instead, enter the name of your business that you used in a previously submitted application. Once you do that, you will get a code that you need to enter in the corresponding popup to confirm that you own the account. After that, your application is prefilled with details from the initial application.

To connect your existing Lightspeed Payments account to your Ecwid store:

  1. From your Ecwid admin, go to Payment.
  2. Next to Lightspeed Payments, click Apply to Enable.
  3. Click Start now and begin onboarding using details of your existing Lightspeed Payments account.
  4. In the popup, click Send code to get an access code to your email that you provided on your first application:

  5. Check your email and enter the code to the popup window:

  6. Click Continue.
  7. Your application will be prefilled. To send the application, click Submit.

Your application will be reviewed and activated immediately. You will be notified about it in your Ecwid admin and via email.
