Lightspeed Payments
Lightspeed Payments allows you to accept all major credit and debit cards (both domestic and international), including Visa, MasterCard, American Express, JCB, Discover, Diners Club International, China UnionPay, and more.
With Lightspeed Payments, you can offer subscriptions to customers. It also supports Google and Apple Pay, so shoppers can checkout with one tap in your store. For the Netherlands, Lightspeed Payments supports iDEAL as a payment method.
Lightspeed Payments processing fees per online transaction depends on your country. All payments processed through Lightspeed Payments, your balance and payouts are always at your fingertips — on the Finance page in your Ecwid admin.
Lightspeed Payments is available in Australia, Belgium, Canada, Ireland, the Netherlands, the UK, and US.
Requirements to use Lightspeed Payments
Before setting up Lightspeed Payments, make sure your store meets the following requirements.
- Your Ecwid store has legal pages, including:
- Privacy Policy
- Shipping, refund and return policy
- Terms and conditions
- Payment methods
- Contact information
- You set up your product and shipping settings in your Ecwid store, including:
- Adding images to all your products
- Ensuring your homepage and product content is authentic, without placeholder text
- Adding shipping methods that match your shipping policy
Prohibited and restricted businesses to use Lightspeed Payments
To get Lightspeed Payments enabled for your store, you need to make sure that you are not selling the following goods and services:
- Adult content and services
- Aggregation/marketplace
- Ammunition
- Auction houses
- CBD
- Charities
- Child support
- Counterfeit or unauthorized goods
- Court ordered payments
- Debt collection
- Digital downloads

Lightspeed Payments processing fees
Lightspeed Payments charges a fee for each transaction that happens in your store. The fee depends on the country where your Lightspeed Payments account is located.
Here’s a detailed overview of rates by countries:
Australia: 2.31% + 0.00 AUD
Belgium: 1.9% + 0.25 EUR
Canada: 2.9% + 0.30 CAD
Ireland: 1.9% + 0.25 EUR
Netherlands: 1.9% + 0.25 EUR
United Kingdom: 1.9% + 0.25 GBP
United States: 2.9% + 0.30 USD
Setting up Lightspeed Payments
Setting up Lightspeed Payments requires no technical skills. All you have to do is apply for the payment method from your Ecwid admin. Once your store is approved, you can start accepting online payments straight away.
To set up Lightspeed Payments in your Ecwid store:
- From your Ecwid admin, go to the Payment page.
- Next to Lightspeed Payments, click Apply to Enable:
- Click Start now and fill in all required information about your business. Make sure to provide email that you check regularly. That email will be used to communicate with you in case of any additional documents are required.
- Once you finish, click Submit.
- Open your Ecwid mobile app.
- Tap Store → Payments.
- Near Lightspeed Payments, tap Apply to Enable.
- Tap Start now and fill in all required information about your business. Make sure to provide email that you check regularly. That email will be used to communicate with you in case of any additional documents are required.
- Once you finish, tap Submit.
- Open your Ecwid mobile app.
- Tap Store → Payments.
- Near Lightspeed Payments, tap Apply to Enable.
- Tap Start now and fill in all required information about your business. Make sure to provide email that you check regularly. That email will be used to communicate with you in case of any additional documents are required.
- Once you finish, tap Submit.
Your application will be reviewed. If it's accepted, you will get notification about it in your Ecwid admin and will be able to accept payments. In rare cases, you may need further verification to enable payouts.
You can check the status of your application on the Payments page in your store admin. You will see whether you can accept payments, receive payouts, or if any additional documents are required.

Checking the Lightspeed Payments application status
After you submit the application for enabling Lightspeed Payments in your store, you can check its status on the Payments page:
Please note that even if your application is approved for receiving payments, it may require additional documents to approve payouts.
Here’s what statuses you can see and what they mean:
- Application incomplete. When you begin the onboarding process, but have not yet submitted the application. Fill in all required fields and click Submit to proceed to the application review.
- Application in review. The application has been submitted and is pending review.
- Additional information required. The list of additional documents that you need to provide will appear on the page and will also be sent to you via email that you used to apply for Lightspeed Payments. You can upload additional documents from the Finance page, by clicking Upload supporting documents.
- Receiving payments approved. You can receive payments, but further verification is required to enable payouts. The list of documents you need to provide will appear in the store admin and send to your email. You can upload additional documents from the Finance page.
- Application fully approved. You can receive both payments and payouts.
- Application rejected. The store has been denied access to Lightspeed Payments.
Accepting payments with Lightspeed Payments
After you enable Lightspeed Payments in your Ecwid store, your customers will be able to choose this payment option at the checkout.
Payments made with Lightspeed Payments will be automatically deposited into your bank account within 1 business day. Processing fees are deducted before the deposit is made.
As soon as they choose Lightspeed Payments as the payment option, they will have to fill in their credit or debit card information and specify their billing address. The Billing address section will be prefilled with a customer’s shipping address:
Billing address specifying is a requirement of Lightspeed Payment to prevent fraud and chargeback. With a billing address, a payment gateway can verify whether it matches the data from the card-issuing bank. In case there is a 100% fraud transaction, Lightspeed Payments will prevent a fraudster from buying in your store.
What if I already have a Lightspeed Payments account?
When you already have a Lightspeed Payments account, you can connect that account to your Ecwid store. You can also use one Lightspeed Payments account for several online stores.
To connect an existing account, you need to enter the same tax ID you have provided in the initial application. Once you do that, you will get access code to the email address you have registered in that initial application. After entering the code to the corresponding popup, your application is prefilled with details from the initial application.
To connect your existing Lightspeed Payments account to your Ecwid store:
- From your Ecwid admin, go to Payment.
- Next to Lightspeed Payments, click Apply to Enable.
- Select Add a new business:
- Begin onboarding by entering information about your business. Use the data from the previously submitted application. When you enter your tax identification number (EIN, CBE, etc.), Ecwid will understand that you already have an account.
- In the popup, click Send code to get an access code to your email that you provided on your first application:
- Check your email and enter the code to the popup window:
- Click Continue.
- Your application will be prefilled. To send the application, click Submit.
- Open your Ecwid mobile app.
- Tap Store → Payments.
- Next to Lightspeed Payments, tap Apply to Enable.
- Select Add a new business:

Your application will be reviewed. Once it is activated, you will be notified in your Ecwid admin and via email, and can start to accept payments.
