Adding tracking numbers to orders

You can assign tracking numbers to orders so that your customers can get real-time updates about their purchases on the carrier’s website. You can assign a tracking number manually through Ecwid admin or by scanning the barcode with your Ecwid mobile app.

Buyers will get the order tracking number by email, they can click on the Track your package title from the email to check the shipment on the carriers’ website. The tracking number is clickable if you ship with real-time rates, but you can also make the tracking link clickable for non-live rates. The tracking link also appears in your store admin — by clicking the Track package link in order's details, you will be redirected to the site where you can track the shipment, too.

Adding a tracking number to order manually

To add a tracking number to an order:

  1. From your Ecwid admin, go to My Sales → Orders.
  2. Find the order you want to assign the tracking number to.
  3. Click Update Order and select Mark as Shipped:

  4. Enter the tracking number:

  5. Click Mark as Shipped.

Once you mark an order as shipped, your customer will receive an email with the assigned tracking number. You can edit the template of this email in Settings → Notifications. If you buy shipping labels from your Ecwid admin, you can send your customers the automated notification with the tracking number.

You can set tracking numbers for multiple orders at once with the help of the UpTracker app.

Adding a tracking number to order with a shipping label barcode

You can add a tracking number to your order by scanning the barcode displayed on your shipping label. You can scan barcodes with your Ecwid mobile app either on your Android or iOS device.

To add the tracking number to the order with your Ecwid mobile app:

  1. Open the order on the Ecwid app or scan the barcode on the invoice to open the order on your iOS device.
  2. Tap Ship order.
  3. Tap Scan barcode and scan the barcode displayed on the shipping label to attach the associate tracking number to the order.
  4. Tap Done to apply changes. Attaching a tracking number will change the order’s status to Shipped.

Now your customer can track the purchase using the number from an email notification about their order. Make sure the Order Shipped notification is on. Otherwise customers won’t get notifications once their order is shipped.

To keep customers updated about their order, use the AfterShip app from the Ecwid App Market. With the app, you can send buyers email or SMS notifications as shipments are in transit, out for delivery, when a delivery attempt might fail, or choose a custom content.
