FedEx

FedEx is an American global courier delivery services company that you can use to ship your orders. In your store, you can display real time FedEx-calculated shipping rates at checkout. You can also choose to show standard rates or your negotiated discounted rates.

At checkout, applicable FedEx services will display and rates will be calculated by FedEx live based on your origin address, customer’s shipping address, and order details such as weight, products’ dimensions, etc.

Setting up FedEx calculated rates

To show real time FedEx-calculated shipping rates at checkout in your store:

  1. From your Ecwid admin, go to Shipping & Pickup.
  2. In the Shipping box, click +Add Shipping.
  3. Click Set Up FedEx.
  4. In the Automatically calculated rates from FedEx box, click Set Up FedEx:FedEx.gif
If you have set up shipping methods in your store in the past, steps 5-7 won’t appear during setup, and FedEx will be enabled right away with the shipping origin you've specified previously. Learn how you can edit your store's shipping origin
  5. (optional) Set minimum order subtotal and enable showing an estimated delivery date at checkout.
  6. Specify your shipping origin. It can be your company’s address or any other location.
Any edits you make to your company's address will also be saved to the Company address section in your Store Profile and displayed in your invoices and email notifications.
  7. Click Save & Finish.

That’s it! FedEx calculated shipping rates will start showing up at checkout. If you have negotiated rates with FedEx and you want customers to see those rates at checkout, you can connect your own FedEx account.

Changing FedEx settings

You can choose which FedEx methods you want to show in your store, limit zones where you will ship to, define default package size, and if needed, add a shipping markup. To edit FedEx settings, go to your store admin → and click Actions → Edit next to FedEx.

To edit the FedEx settings in your Ecwid store:

  1. From your Ecwid admin, go to Shipping & Pickup.
  2. In the FedEx box click on the Actions menu and choose Edit from the dropdown menu.

In FedEx settings, you can change the following:

  • Shipping options
Enable which FedEx services you will use to ship orders. Customers will see these options at checkout. Learn more about FedEx shipping services to choose the shipping methods that will work best for you.
  • Show approximate delivery date at checkout
Turn this on to display the approximate delivery date next to delivery options at checkout. A clearly stated delivery date lets customers understand when they can expect to receive their order, resulting in a higher number of successful sales.

In the Order preparation time specify how many days it usually takes for you to prepare an order. That time will be taken into account when calculating the delivery date for customers.

In the Days when you pack orders specify when you pack orders for shipment.
Set the final time to pack orders in the I pack orders received past this time on the next day box. Your schedule will be taken into account when calculating the delivery date for customers.
  • Shipping region
Select which destination zone the FedEx rates will be available for in your store. You can choose to ship all over the world, specify region, country or city or choose a specific zone on map.
Customers whose address doesn’t fall into the set zone won’t see FedEx options at checkout.
  • Shipping markup
Add shipping markup. The markup is a fixed fee that will be added to the FedEx rates. Use this setting if you want to increase the shipping rates to cover your shipping expenses.
  • Default package size (cm)
Set default package size. This size will be used to calculate the shipping rates. If all of your products are approximately the same size, you can set the default package size in the shipping settings once and use it for all your products. If your products differ in size, set up product dimensions for each product.
  • Minimum order subtotal
Limit the availability of this shipping method by order subtotal. If the order is below the set amount, this shipping method will be inactive at checkout.
  • Internal shipping name
Enter the name that will be used to refer to this method in the control panel. This name is for internal use only and cannot be seen by customers. The actual names of the shipping methods displayed at checkout are retrieved from the carrier.
  • Connect your FedEx account
If you have negotiated rates with FedEx, you can offer these rates to customers at checkout by connecting your FedEx account to your Ecwid store.
  • Drop-off type
Depending on how you are going to pass the orders to FedEx, choose one of the following drop-off types:
    • Regular Pickup — if you already have an every-day pickup scheduled with a courier.
    • Request Courier — if you call FedEx to ask for a courier.
    • Drop Box — if you drop the package in a FedEx drop box.
    • Business Service Center — if you drop off the package at an authorized FedEx business service center.
    • Station — if you drop off the package at a FedEx Station.
Once you’ve changed FedEx settings, check the results in your storefront: add some products to the cart, go to checkout, and enter different shipping addresses. Make sure that you see the FedEx options and rates you want to use. If needed, go back to the Ecwid admin and adjust the settings.

Connecting your FedEx account (advanced way)

If you have negotiated discounted shipping rates with FedEx, you can connect your FedEx account to your Ecwid store so that customers see these rates at checkout.

To connect your FedEx account to your Ecwid store:

  1. If you don’t have a FedEx account yet, register it on the FedEx website by clicking Sign Up or Log In → Create account. Follow the instructions on the website to complete the registration.
  2. Go to FedEx Developer Resource Center.
  3. Click FedEx Web services → Get production key.
  4. Read and agree with FedEx Terms & Conditions and fill in the form.
  5. Follow further steps on the FedEx website to get the production key.
  6. After you complete the steps, copy and save the Authentication Key that FedEx will generate for you.
  7. Open the inbox of your email to get the Production Authentication Password (Security Code) and Production Meter Number. FedEx will send these credentials to the email address associated with your FedEx account.
  8. Go to your Ecwid admin → Shipping & Pickup → click Actions next to FedEx → Edit.
  9. Scroll down and click Use your own shipping account (advanced way).
  10. Fill in your FedEx credentials.
  11. Click Test Method at the bottom of the page to ensure that you have entered the credentials correctly.
  12. Click Save.
FedEx uses different account numbers for live and test accounts. A live account does not work in a test mode, and vice versa.

FAQ

How can I get the FedEx Home Delivery shipping method?

FedEx Ground does not ship to a residence and FedEx Home Delivery does not deliver to a commercial building.

If you want to use the FedEx Home Delivery shipping method, you should specify that your deliveries are residential:

  1. From your Ecwid admin, go to Shipping & Pickup → click Actions next to FedEx → Edit.
  2. Scroll the page to the bottom and tick Ship to a residence option.
  3. Click Save.

When this checkbox is checked, the Home Delivery rate is returned. When that is not checked, the Home Delivery rate does not show up. You will also note the difference in rates returned for other delivery options.

What do drop-off types mean?

You can choose the drop-off type in FedEx settings: from your Ecwid admin, go to Shipping & Pickup → click Actions next to FedEx → Edit.
