Product types are groups of products that share the same attributes. Apparel, for example, can be designated by brand, season, material, etc. With help of product types you can create product characteristics for the product details page and store service information about products that you do not want to display to your customers.

You can easily create new product type and add any attributes in your Ecwid Control Panel → Settings → Product types.
You can display various attributes in your store by selecting the Show option next to each of them:
To add or edit the product attributes:
- Go to your Ecwid Control Panel → Catalog → Products.
- Open the page of the product you want to edit.
- Open the Attributes tab:
To assign a different product type, click Change type and select the preferred type in the dropdown:
if you set the attribute to Do not Show in the product types settings, you will see that it is hidden:
General is the default product type assigned to all products. This has two attributes that we consider the most common:
- UPC: unique product identifier such as UPC (in North America), EAN (in Europe), JAN (in Japan) and ISBN (for books).
- Brand: brand or manufacturer of the product. It can be "Author" for books, "Producer" for electronics, and "Brand" for apparels.
These are permanent attributes in Ecwid’s Control Panel that can be exported and imported via the CSV import tool. While you cannot delete them, you may hide these attributes from your customers If you don't want to use them.
Some customers will want to search your catalog by brand. You can offer this functionality using customized product filters or by installing the Clickable brand App.

The Clickable Brand App provides a link for customers to view all products of a specific brand in your catalog.
