IGST charges for Ecwid merchants located in India
According to the updated regulations, effective October 1, 2023, Indian integrated goods and services tax (IGST) applies to sales of overseas OIDAR (Online Information Database Access and Retrieval) service providers. Ecwid's online shopping cart is considered a digital service, and thus, we are compelled to comply with these changes.
How will Ecwid charge IGST for Indian clients?
Ecwid automatically detects your country based on your IP address. Ecwid plan prices and internally billed paid app prices for Indian customers are updated to include IGST (18%).
When choosing an Ecwid plan on the Billing and Plans page in your Ecwid admin, you will see a plan price without the 18% IGST. Once you proceed to checkout, you will see the final price with the included IGST.
If Ecwid incorrectly detects your country, you can edit your country in the Ecwid admin panel → Settings → General → Store Profile tab, or from the "Change country" drop-down menu during the billing process.
Waiving taxes with a GSTIN number
With an Indian GSTIN number, you can avoid paying an additional 18% when purchasing an Ecwid plan or any of Ecwid's paid apps. All you have to do is add your GSTIN number to your Ecwid admin and zero-rate the IGST.
To submit your GSTIN to Ecwid:
- From your Ecwid admin, go to Profile → Billing and Plans.
- Click Enter your GSTIN number to waive taxes.
- Enter your GSTIN number.
- Click Save.
You can also enter your GSTIN number while paying for an Ecwid plan. During checkout, enter the GSTIN number in the corresponding field to waive taxes.
Once you add your GSTIN number, it is saved in your store profile.
